It is cherry blossom season in Tokyo and the CineMuseSpace team visited the capital for one week in April to discover spatial-cultural differences in Japanese everyday life and meet new collaborators.
Principal-investigator François Penz and research associate Janina Schupp explored various areas of the city, from modern to more traditional neighborhoods.
On Tsukishima and Tsukuda, they took part in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony led by Kie Miyamoto and explored backstreets and traditional dwellings guided by colleague Kumiko Kiuchi from the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Together with international co-investigator Simone Chung, the CineMuseSpace team met the Japanese collaborative artist group Teamlab, including co-founder Toshiyuki Inoko, and got a first-hand look at their latest creative concepts.
Upon invitation by Taishin Shiozaki from Tokyo Institute of Technology, François Penz furthermore gave a lecture at Tokyo Tech’s Department of Architecture and Urban Engineering about his cinematic approach to architectural elements.
