Biography

Andong Lu is Professor in Architecture and Urbanism, Nanjing University. He completed his PhD at Darwin College, University of Cambridge, and was a Fellow of Wolfson College. He has published widely in academic journals, including the Journal of Architecture, AD, arq: Architectural Research QuarterlyTime + Architecture and World Architecture, etc. He co-edited with François Penz the Urban Cinematics (University of Chicago Press, 2011) and with Wowo Ding and Arie Graafland the Cities in Transition (NAi010 Press, 2015). He is working on Steady Steps Forwards: Reflective Architectural Practice in China, a special issue of AD (forthcoming 2018). He acted as the principal investigator for several national research grants, including A study on the design methodology of systemized surface for regional constructions in towns and villages (NSFC), Environmental tectonics in the architecture of the modern national industries in southern Jiangsu and their application to contemporary sustainable architecture (SRFDP), Spatialization technology of narrative information in historic urban environments (MHRSS). He is an architect, curator, and executive guest-editor of the Architectural Journal (international edition), the journal of the Architectural Society of China. He curated a series of research-based exhibitions, including: Infinite Wall: the Architecture of Filtration and Diffusion (Nanjing Academy of the Arts, Nanjing 2015), Design Research in Alternative Contexts (RIBA, London 2015), Cinematic Architecture: Spatial Practice of Imagination (Archiposition Gallery, Shenzhen 2016), Inter-place (Nextmixing Gallery, Shanghai 2017) and Red Futurism (New Museum, New York 2017).
